Posted by on Tuesday, December 22, 2009. Leave a Comment

The garage is perceived as a place packed with junk as everything not in use is placed in garage. But the garage needs to be organized so as to make enough room for family car by the help of right storage solutions. The garage can be properly utilized by good storage solutions like shelving units, cupboards, cabinets and hooks. Plastic containers are used to store items and one can even see the items in each box easily. But before buying storage units one should organize items in different piles depending on different categories for easy accessibility. But if something is not repairable or broken then throw it away instead of making a pile of junk. There should be enough space for storing seasonal equipment according to different seasons. This way one can organize the garage and still get ample of floor space. The people use garages as workshops and expanded playrooms for children.

Different garage storage options

Shelving Units
The garage shelves provide enough space in the vertical plane and helps in storing items off the floor. This saves valuable floor space and provides productive work area for other chores. One can even build the shelves himself from dimensional lumber and plywood.

The wall-mounted shelves are installed easily and have plastic coating for protecting against harsh garage environment and also prevent rust and corrosion. The open wire construction of the shelves allows easy circulation of air around stored items that decreases mold and mildew formation in moist climates. The heavy, metal shelving brackets are attached with the walls so as to support dimensional lumber and plywood shelves.

The freestanding shelves are made of wood, wire and resin. These units separate a specific part of the garage from the rest of the space for using the space as laundry or shop. These shelving units have locking-caster wheels for easy movement of the entire unit with ease.

Utility Cabinets
The utility cabinets are made of resin, metal and wood composite materials. These storage cabinets give a convenient way for storing items behind doors. Even the storage cabinets are available with lockable doors to keep the kids away from sharp tools and dangerous household chemicals.

Storage cupboards
The garage cupboards provide enough storage solutions to store various garage products in proper manner.

Peg Hooks
Peg hooks provide a versatile method of garage storage as the hooks can be easily moved and adjusted according to the storage requirements.

Wall and Rafter Hangers
The wall studs and ceiling rafters are used for storing ladders, hoses and bicycles.

The Ultimate PRO cabinets with Metallic Silver doors and drawers are available in rich dark gray tone. The cabinet shelves are moisture resistant with dual shelf pins that provide high shelf load rating. The shelves are adjusted inside the cabinet by full line bore. Its feet are adjustable that enables comfortable standing of cabinets on uneven surfaces and also enable easy floor cleaning. Garage Storage Space – Your Garage Can Save You Money

Posted by on Sunday, December 20, 2009. Leave a Comment

Garage storage space often becomes more and more limited over time as the humble garage becomes a dumping ground for all of the items that aren’t needed anymore but for some reason, just don’t seem to be able to reach the bin.

The original purpose for most garages is to store vehicles and they do excel at this.  Keeping your car locked away in a garage shields it from the weather, passers-by who may scratch or lean on it and of course safe guard it from thieves.  These are all beneficial to car owners, can save money on car repairs and maintenance bills and with some insurance companies even reduce your car insurance premium.

In times of financial struggle any which way to reduce outgoings needs consideration and it’s possible that the garage isn’t the first thing that comes to mind.  Clearing your garage of clutter can release space to store valuable possessions such as cars and motorcycles, especially older or classic vehicles that are prone to the dreadded rust!

Implementing a storage solution in a garage can also provide space to securely store tools and other valuable items such as golf clubs or bikes.  Having a dedicated area to lock such items away means that they are out of the house, but easily accessible and most importantly secure.

There are also in-direct benefits of making your garage a secure and weatherproof area for storage.  One such example is for those who like to store packaging, it’s not unusual to keep the box for a computer or television as it’s well known that if  the time ever came to sell it, a much better price can be achieved if the original packaging is still in a uasble state.

Unleash the storage potential of your garage and the opportunity to save some money at the same time.

Shelves Offer Perfect Garage Storage Solutions

Posted by on Saturday, December 19, 2009. Leave a Comment

In most homes today, unless you have a storage unit or shed, the most common place to store all of our extra items is in the garage. There are many garage storage solutions available today beyond home built shelves using scrap 2′x4′s and plywood (though these have worked very well for many people in past). One great thing about shelves are that they take advantage of the vertical space in your garage, freeing up much of the floor space for other uses.

There are two main types of shelving: free standing and wall mounted shelves.

Free standing shelves can be made out of a variety of materials, including pressed board, resin, wood, metal and heavy duty wire that is often coated with rubber. The main nice thing about free standing utility shelves as garage storage solutions is that you can move them around, placing them where they are needed most. When placed strategically in the garage, you can even use them as a divider, such as to separate a shop area from the rest of the garage.

This style of shelves can come in a variety of depths, commonly from 12” to 20”. These also can come in a variety of styles. Some come on lockable casters so that you can move them easily and them lock them into place so that they do not move. Others, such as some of the heavy duty plastic / resin shelves easily break down for portability. The solid, heavy duty plastic coated wire shelves will hold a large amount of weight, and will not rust if they get wet, which is a big advantage over the pressed board style and for many are a preferred form of garage storage solutions.

Wall mounted shelves also come in a variety of material, though it is best to get a heavy duty shelf that is specially designed for the garage, such as one that is designed to hold up to 100 lbs. per linear foot. Heavy duty wire shelves are ideal because they do hold a lot of weight, and because of their open design you can easily see from below what is stored on shelves that are higher up on the wall. The open wire design also allows for greater air circulation which helps cut down on any mold or mildew problems if you live in humid areas.

When hanging shelves on your walls, you need to make sure that you consider what you are going to store on them so that you can plan for the correct amount of spacing between shelves, especially since they are more difficult form of garage storage solutions to move around once they are hung. One advantage to hanging shelves on the wall over free standing shelves is that you can start the shelves on the wall where ever you want, allowing a greater amount of space under the first shelf. This allows you to store some taller items (such as stools or wheel barrows) underneath.

Besides shelves, there are also many other great garage storage solutions to help you make your garage a safer and more productive work area, such as garage cabinets and utility hooks. So, start with shelves, and then add other options until you have designed a garage that best suits your storage and hobby needs. After all, a garage should be more than just a catch all for miscellaneous items around your house.

Modern Garage Storage Solutions Replace Grandpa’s Quick Fixes

Posted by on Saturday, December 19, 2009. Leave a Comment

Garage storage solutions obviously range from no solution at all, where everything is just a big jumbled mess, all the way up to where everything is perfectly organized in little shelves, boxes, cabinets, etc. For most of us, we just need to find a workable solution to our garage storage problems that is somewhere in the middle.

Even a basic shelf system is a huge benefit to most home owners. Garage storage solutions don’t have to be complex, expensive, or overly deluxe. If you had the choice between even 2×4 and plywood shelves, or no shelves at all, what would you take? Unless you really have something against plywood it is likely that you would want the benefits that shelves can give. Going vertical in the garage is always a good thing when it comes to garage storage. There is much more space up off the floor.

In today’s homes, there are fishing poles, sport balls, skis and snowboards, bikes, toys, tools, and a myriad of other items that we need to store. The right garage storage solutions make storing all this stuff manageable, and even fun. If not fun, then certainly satisfying at least. There are very few frustrations as irritating as not being able to think straight because of a disorganized and cluttered mess under foot. Never fear. Manufacturers get this and have done a stellar job of giving us all some really sweet options for storage.

Outside of basic shelving I would say that the next most popular garage storage solutions revolve around some sort of rack or hanging system. This is fantastic because a lot of the things we need to store just won’t fit in a bin or on a shelf. My Grandpa always just drove a couple nails into a wall stud to hang shovels, hoes, and rakes on. This worked fine, but that just won’t do in today’s appearance-conscious world. Oh no, now we have powder-coated racks that have all the bells and whistles. And why not. Most home owners are affluent enough to get these sorts of things in their lives. Everything has a place, and everything in it’s place. That’s what Grandpa always said. Now we get to do it with style.

To really take garage storage solutions to the next level, one has to get away from the homemade shelving and simple racks toward more comprehensive and complete systems. Deluxe metal cabinets that close off the contents from view are nice. And overhead bin systems work great for storing things like holiday decorations and items that are hardly ever accessed, like keepsake boxes and miscellaneous household items that we should probably just toss out anyway. But you know how it is, it is just tough to get rid of things we are attached to sentimentally. But that’s another topic for another day.

One of the coolest garage storage solutions is the platform that can be raised and lowered via pulley system up and down from the rafters. This is sweet because you can load all sorts of things on the platform, then simply raise it up out of the way and secure it until you need to retrieve something from it in the future.

Today’s garage storage solutions are many and varied. A little something for everyone, simple or complex. You are bound to find something to suit your needs.

Solving Your Garage Storage Problems When a Larger Space Won’t

Posted by on Thursday, December 17, 2009. Leave a Comment

Garage storage has recently taken on a whole new meaning since I moved. Before I owned a garage, I thought all my storage problems would be solved once I had one. Then, once I had one, I came to believe that what I really needed was a larger one. I have since come to learn that that wasn’t entirely true either. Most home owners who happen to have a garage probably know what it’s like to try to make sense of all the stuff in their lives in a normal garage space, only to be frustrated. With sport balls, skis, bikes, holiday supplies, fishing gear, workout equipment, and a host of other items to store, garage owners try all sorts of creative solutions for their storage needs and sometimes still end up feeling like they just don’t have enough space.

Luckily, there are some really helpful, attractive, and effective garage storage solutions. You can find customized storage racks, hooks, bins, and shelves for almost anything these days. Some homeowners opt for simple plywood shelving, while others go all out and get the latest and greatest. Regardless, each garage owner is usually trying to maximize available space for what is usually way too much stuff anyway. Part of the joys of living in a materially successful society I guess. But, even with all these creative solutions to your storage problems, it doesn’t mean that you are going to have enough space for all the stuff in your life. And that leads me to my recent dilemma. See if you can relate.

When I sold my house and moved into a smaller house in another town, I learned right away how much I missed having a garage. But, luckily, the new place comes with a large out building where lots of stuff gets to live. In fact, this raises an interesting problem I hadn’t even thought of at first. I really thought that having a larger space would solve my garage storage problems, but that hasn’t necessarily proven true. Now, instead of trying to figure out how to just effectively store a bunch of miscellaneous things, I am trying to figure out how to also integrate other activities that used to happen in my larger house; things like working out, relaxing in the family room, playing games with the kids, etc. So while I’m glad to have a large space, I’ve discovered that it isn’t the space itself that matters most when it comes to garage storage.

What actually matters most isn’t how much space you have, but what you do with it that matters. Even with a really large space, if you just pile everything into it you’ll be just as frustrated as if you had a small space. So if you are trying to deal with limited space, don’t kid yourself into thinking that all you need to do is move into a larger one. Nope, what you really need to do is take inventory, get rid of as much extra stuff as possible, buy some creative garage storage solution products, and then use it.

If you do these things, then whether you live in a relatively small place, or have lots of garage storage space, you can take control and live with the peace and contentment that comes from an ordered and organized approach.

Creative Garage Storage Solutions

Posted by on Thursday, December 17, 2009. Leave a Comment

Garage storage solutions usually come packaged in some pretty plain colors. I mean, everyone gets it that shelves are a good idea; but that’s so drab. Everyone also gets it that cabinets are good – can someone please pass me the Nodoz. I am not suggesting that shelves and cabinets don’t have a place in solving your storage problems. I am just saying that we can all go beyond these basics. Let’s take a look at some creative ways to store things in your garage that go beyond shelves and cabinets.

One of the coolest creative garage storage solutions I have seen utilizes the space overhead. If you think about it, we all tend to use floor space without a second thought. We even lift things up just a bit when we start setting things on a bench or on a shelf. Those things help, but it’s time to think just a bit higher. There is space above to spare. How about overhead storage racks that attach right to the rafters of your garage? Have you seen these things? You simply screw some tracks into the wooden rafters above and slide on some plastic bins. Viola! There you have it, an overhead storage solution for your garage. This allows you to put all those things up out of the way that are hardly ever accessed. Things like holiday decorations, lights and such.

One of the on going problems with not implementing the right garage storage solutions is that when things get cluttered along the outside edge of the garage, there is absolutely no place to store things that really need storing. It is obvious that you should get rid of the things that you never use or access. Be gone with such rabble. Once this is done you are in a position to truly appreciate and utilize the next several creative garage storage solutions, i.e., bins and racks.

Turns out there are actually bins designed for storing sports balls, roller blades, rackets, baseball gloves, and many other things that typically get tossed on the floor or lost in a pile somewhere. Most of these are attractive powder coated metal bins that are easily adjustable for where you want to install them on the wall. Some even have integral hanging racks with different attachment point options. This is a nice feature because while one height might be good for the adults in the family, it will be completely unworkable for the shorter folks. Anytime you can get adjustable garage storage solutions, that is a good thing. The kids will thank you. And, if you think about it, it’ll actually save you time and effort as well because you won’t always have to be running out to the garage to hand things down to the kids when they need them.

As for racks, these are real things of beauty. Garage storage solutions have to take care of the things in life that don’t stack or store away in bins easily. These are things like bikes and fishing rods and reels. Have you noticed how frustrating it is to try to lean a fishing pole against the wall? They always tip over against the ones next to it and turn into a mangled mess. Racks designed for storing fishing gear are a real life saver. Bike racks are made that allow storage against the wall, or lifted up into the space above. Whatever you do, be creative with garage storage solutions and you will be forever glad you did.

Behind The Invention Of A Better Garage Storage Solution

Posted by on Wednesday, December 16, 2009. Leave a Comment

You might think that making a metal pegboard system is a no-brainer, and you’d be right – if the pegboard was a lousy product. Ironsides Storage Solutions’ Holey Rail™ provides a window into how inventiveness and quality control can improve even the most innocuous items around your household. In fact, that’s the point; if a garage storage solution gets noticed, that usually means it isn’t working properly. The Holey Rail™ design team used the following process to create a better steel pegboard system.

Research and Competitor Testing: Ironsides Storage Solutions began because it saw a need in the storage system market. With space at a premium in many modern houses, homeowners increasingly resorted to improvised methods to get their property off of garage floors. The team acquired first hand experience with other systems as they were actually being used – and often, overloaded. This allowed them to find stress points and other common problems to focus the design of their own products. Aside from the Holey Rail™ itself, this also influenced the design of the company’s peg hooks and Pegstrapper™ systems. One of the most important insights that came out of this process was the superiority of an extruded steel pegboard system over simply cutting holes into a steel plate.

Prototypes and Product Testing: Once the team zeroed in on its objectives it was time to create prototypes. No product is perfect the first time it’s manufactured, so prototyping allows a manufacturer to iron out any issues with the product or manufacturing process before it gets released to the general public. Eventually, Ironsides Storage Solutions satisfied itself that it had found the best way to manufacture extruded metal peg boards, peg hooks and other products at a consistently high quality. This also helped the company develop effective customer support. Complete knowledge of the product means Ironsides Storage Solutions can properly advise consumers on how to properly install and use its products.

Quality Production: The next step is to adapt the process to a working production flow. Without an efficient manufacturing process that still preserves the product’s quality, time and materials considerations would create a spike in production costs that the company would have to pass on to the consumer. Ironsides’ team eventually got efficient production down to an art, enabling them to offer a quality product at a competitive price.

Continual Quality Management: Ever since the Holey Rail™ was released, Ironsides has kept on top of product quality. This has two aspects: response and improvement. Response tracks the rare defect or issue to its source. After examining the flawed process the team changes production to ensure that the issue never arises again. Improvement refers to the effort to gradually increase product quality beyond even the standards of current production. In the case of steel pegboards, this involves responding to customer and distributor feedback, and exploring different material dimensions, mounting methods and supplemental products. In many cases this paves the way for entirely new products, such as the modular storage system Ironsides Storage Solutions expects to release in the near future.

Each of these steps helps ensure that something as basic as a garage storage solution works better than any ad hoc alternatives and demonstrates that even products that tend to fade into the background are the result of intelligence, research and hard work.

Garden Tool And Garage Storage Solutions For Spring Cleaning

Posted by on Tuesday, December 15, 2009. Leave a Comment

As spring creeps upon us it’s time to consider what to do with all of the clutter we packed away as soon as it started to get cold. Many people have sheds and garages packed with things they’ll need to get out again: bicycles, garden tools, sports equipment and more. If you’re tired of going through this routine year in and year out, you need to find a storage solution that works all year round, where it’s not only easy to get all of the seasonal gear you need, but where daily and long term storage are exactly the same. While many people are content to just drive nails to hang things and be done with it, nails bend, poke you when you walk by them, don’t hold much and lead to an ugly looking storage space.

Pegboards are one of the most common garage storage solutions. A basic pegboard system is wood or treated cardboard with a series of holes. These holes hold hooks in any configuration you like, which can be used to hang your tools. Unfortunately, traditional pegboards have a number of problems. They grow, shrink and warp with as the seasons change. They can break or tear if they aren’t mounted properly, and the holes wear and rip over time. As a result, most people banish their pegboards to one corner of their garage, tool shed or workshop – hardly a solution that gets rid of the need to spring clean.

Fortunately, the pegboard concept can still work, but you need to have the right kind of pegboard. Metal pegboards don’t have the breaking and warping issues of their wood and cardboard counterparts. Like any other product, metal pegboards come in different levels of quality. One tough, high quality steel pegboard is Ironsides Storage Solutions’ Holey Rail™. The Holey Rail ™ is made of thick steel with peg holes that are extruded, not drilled. This means that the pegboard holes are molded into place, so they won’t compromise the integrity of the steel. As a result, this system can hold very heavy objects, including rakes, bicycles, large tools, bags and even plastic containers. The mounting will fail before the steel does, and if you mount it properly, that’s unlikely to happen at all. Combined with large peg hooks and reinforcing peg strappers, the Holey Rail™ serves as a permanent storage solution that’s also accessible.

A garage storage solution like this will greatly simplify your spring cleaning. There don’t need to be “summer” and “winter” storage locations for your bikes, garden tools or other seasonal equipment. You can confidently leave everything where it’s supposed to be for the long term. This steel pegboard rating is easy to mount as well, because it won’t bend between anchor points. Instead of having a small pegboard sitting just above your workbench, you can mount these across the entire inside of your garage or shed. Give steel pegboards a try. You’ll cut your cleaning down and put everything you need to enjoy the warm weather close at hand.

Garagemaid Garage Storage

Posted by on Tuesday, December 15, 2009. Leave a Comment

Garage storage is something every home owner must come to terms with at some point. Our lives are just smack full of stuff. Stuff that has to go somewhere. Even though it’s stuff that we hardly ever use or really even need, we just seem to keep hanging on to it year after year. Of course, there are lots of things we do need to access and use on a regular, albeit infrequent, basis. For example, Christmas does come around every year, so those boxes and boxes of decorations have to be accessible and ready to rock ‘n roll when it’s time to deck the halls. And all that sports and fishing equipment can’t be buried somewhere when you need it. Lucky for home owners, effective do-it-yourself garage storage solutions are available from companies like Garagemaid. Consider the following:

Garagemaid has innovative garage storage systems that utilize interlocking connectors that are designed into each part. This means that there is no need to fuss with little fasteners that often just make assembly frustrating. The interlocking connectors add a lot of stability to the units, while at the same time making installation and assembly a snap. Once the unit is put together it’s just a matter of attaching it to the studs of the wall for a great garage storage system.

One of the nice things about Garagemaid products is that they are made out of a high density polyethylene so it is virtually impervious to problems that often arise from wood products when they get wet. With high density polyethylene, things like rot, rust, or cracking are avoided all together. It is an easily cleanable product that doesn’t have to be painted to look good.

Finally, the modular aspect of this system allows a variety of combinations that allow a more custom fit for your garage storage needs. You might start out with their basic storage cabinet that measures 84″ tall x 22″ wide. This has four adjustable shelves and a door on the upper part of the cabinet. The bottom part allows you to use up to four optional drawers. If you need additional garage storage you can just purchase additional shelves or even other cabinets with which it can be combined. This ability to customize really lets you get your storage just the way you want it in your garage space.

If you just need hooks for tools or other items you want to store on a wall, they also make a slat wall “workstation” kit with hooks. This unit is 42″ wide x 39″ tall. The kit includes 14 storage hooks that just snap securely into the slat wall where you want them. There is also a 4″ x 24″ storage basket that is designed to be used with the slat wall. These baskets are perfect for storing small items. The baskets have clear fronts so it’s easy to see what is inside. These don’t require any assembly. Just snap it in place and that’s it!

By combining the different styles of cabinets, slat wall kit, hooks, and baskets together anyone can design and implement their own customized garage storage solution in minutes. Then you will be able to find anything you need at any time.

Cost Effective Garage Storage Solutions

Posted by on Monday, December 14, 2009. Leave a Comment

The first time you open the door on a new garage it almost always looks huge. The big, empty space is inviting and full of possibilities. Fast forward to a few months later, however, and if you’re a typical homeowner you’ve filled that space up with all kinds of clutter: toys, tools and all of the boxes you couldn’t find space for in the house proper. That’s why garage storage ideas are one of the basic topics of conversation for homeowners everywhere. There are lots of options. Which one is the most cost effective? Let’s look at some basic criteria courtesy of the storage professionals at holeyrail.com.

Efficiency

Floor space is the basic currency of garage storage efficiency. A garage floor is a messy place; if you don’t want your stuff to get wet, stained or possibly run over by your car you want to get it off the floor. That’s why after a few misadventures most people try to mount things on the walls or hang them from garage rafters. This is really the only practical solution but it can be risky if the method you’re using isn’t strong or secure enough for the weight of the item or to stand up to the vibrations of a moving car or garage door. Pegboards are a traditional solution, but standard boards aren’t necessarily going to stand up to the stress.

Flexibility

Pegboard garage storage solutions also have the advantage of flexibility. As long as the board and pegboard hooks are strong enough you can mount almost anything on your garage wall. Heavy loads such as storage containers may require special care, however. Consider using screws and peg strappers to keep pegboard hooks firmly in place. You may have to experiment a bit to hang oddly shaped things. For example, you should use a larger hook and an overhanging rail to hang a bicycle because it needs clearance for its width.

Portability

Most homeowners these days go through several houses as their families grow up and their finances improve. That means you shouldn’t just think in terms of the perfect solution for this garage, but one that will work in future garages, too. That means that just banging a few nails to hang things just isn’t going to cut it. In fact, when it’s time to sell the house, the protruding nails you thought were handy become an eyesore and a pain to yank out when you’re prepping for a sale. On the other hand, a tough metal pegboard gives you two great options. You can remove it and take it with you to your new home or you can leave it in place, adding a bit if extra appeal to your house.

Toughness

As we’ve noted elsewhere in this article your solution needs to be tough. Otherwise, it’s just going to be a set of hooks for your keys, coats and a couple of small tools. You want to be able to lift heavy bags and boxes off of the floor. To get the best out of a garage storage solution go for tough materials and a secure spot to mount it. If you do that you’ll be surprised at exactly how much you can get out of the way.

Ironsides Storage Solutions is the exclusive manufacturer of the Holey Rail? heavy duty metal pegboard system. This and other systems are ideal garage storage solutions for heavy objects. Order by phone, web or through by select distributors for retail sale.
