Today more and more people are looking household storage ideas in order to provide that all important extra space in your home then hopefully the ideas below may give you some ideas on how this can be achieved.

Garage Storage

All garage storage cabinets need to be strong and durable to withstand the years of heavy use that they will be put under and for that reason alone either stainless steel or wood have been the preferred materials. But today there are other alternatives that can be used instead.

In recent years the modular resin storage cabinet has become a popular garage accessory as they are low maintenance, strong and durable at a very reasonable price. These types of cabinets normally sell for less than $100 and if you purchase them as part of a larger storage system that are stackable.

Attic Storage

You may consider a storage cabinet for the attic to be unnecessary but think about how much dust accumulates over time in this area and the possible damage it may be doing to your prized possessions. The use of storage pods or storage cabinets in this area is both inexpensive and a highly useful form of attic storage.

All storage pods and cabinets are waterproof, fire resistant and they can be attached to the rafters in the attic and there are ones which have a washable filter which reduces the amount of dust contamination that will affect the products inside.

Home Storage Cabinets

The problem with the more traditional storage cabinets to be found in the home is that they are often bulky and unattractive. But today more and more cabinet manufacturers are producing designs which offer cabinets that are both taller and thinner.

One of the biggest challenges that we face in our homes is the use of unused space to help reduce clutter. Many corners of homes have become the latest place for decorative storage units to be placed and you could either have a corner curio cabinet or open book shelves to use for household storage.

If floor space is limited in your home then why not think about using wall hanging storage units instead or just install a single shelf in an open wall space either above a window or above home furnishings.

So as you see the types of household storage products is varied and finding the right one for you just needs a little bit of imagination.

A Garage Storage Cabinet – You Gotta Love It

Posted by on Sunday, December 20, 2009. Leave a Comment

A garage storage cabinet is just a thing, right? It’s not alive. It doesn’t talk, eat or breath. Some would argue that it doesn’t even have a personality, and further, that it is something certainly unworthy of such a thing as love. Well, I disagree. Not only does a garage storage cabinet have a personality, there are more than enough reasons to love it. And if you love it, it will love you back.

When I think back on my first garage storage cabinet, I remember how great it was when I first started carefully organizing things into it. I finally had a place to put things that would otherwise just be thrown into a box or into a pile on the bench. On the left I kept about eight cans of partially used containers of paint. I had all my brushes and other painting supplies neatly laid out next to them. On the right I kept a various assortment of sandpapers, tapes, miscellaneous goops and some rags. It looked great.

I also remember my utter frustration, and irritation, when about six months later I went to find some plumbers putty and could hardly make sense of things at all. I knew it was in there somewhere, but I just couldn’t find it because I had let the cabinet get so disorganized and cluttered. I mean, this thing was literally eating my stuff. I’m not sure how it happened, but it did. The light was starting to turn on in my head. I was starting to realize that I could no longer ignore the needs of my cabinet if I wanted to stay happy and sane. Am I alone here? Didn’t think so.

So what did I do? I took the opportunity to get real. Something clicked and I made the realization that my garage storage cabinet would only take care of me if I took care of it. This is when I realized that it did indeed have a personality. I resolved to start treating it with the respect and dignity that it deserved.

First thing I did was start over. I removed all the junk that had accumulated over time and threw away the stuff I didn’t need anymore. Then I reorganized it, only with a master plan. I resolved to only store things that I would actually use, and I bought my garage storage cabinet some friends. I got a huge stand-alone cabinet with tread plate doors and heavy duty steel construction. This purchase alone really improved my relationship with my original cabinet. Now I didn’t have to feel like every single thing I had to store had to be put in only one space. Getting this second unit really freed up a lot of space and made it much easier to store things in an organized way. I could almost hear the sigh of relief and appreciation coming from my original cabinet. The love was beginning to happen.

It’s been about a year now since I made that simple change and resolution. I am proud to report that my garage storage cabinet situation has remained a positive aspect of my life. And as silly as it may sound, it has actually deepened my love and appreciation for anything that gives me peace and structure in life, including cabinetry.

How Garage Storage Can Save Your Marriage

Posted by on Tuesday, December 15, 2009. Leave a Comment

“Get your dirty hunting crap out of my bathroom!”

Is this something you hear often upon returning home from another successful hunting trip? Wives, do your husbands leave their tools, greasy car parts, and other manly miscellanea laying about on your good Jennifer Convertibles? Husbands, do your wives stock your closet so full of old baby clothes, dresses she will never fit into again, and knick-knacks from when you first got married that finding your shoes is like searching for Bobby Fisher?

If either spouse answers yes to these questions, then something must be done. You should get garage storage!

A Place For All Things

Your closet is not the place for all the stuff you never use. Your closet is where you keep the things you use on a daily basis. Your garage is where you hide away all those things that get used rarely, if ever. Garages aren’t just for cars anymore. Men can keep their tools there, and women can stash away the baby clothes for the “just in case.” There are so many options these days that it doesn’t make sense not to store things in the garage.

With all the extra things you have tucked away in your overstuffed house you can use a little garage storage space. And believe me, you spouse will thank you for not putting your “crap” where it doesn’t belong.

Garage storage comes in many different types and sizes. You can choose to have just a small shelf, basket, or cabinet attached to an unused wall, or you can splurge for the much bigger cabinet with tons more storage space.

The storage basket is more for toys, sports equipment, and small miscellaneous tools. Anything you want to put away with a fuss. The garage storage shelf is for stuff that won’t fit in a conventional cabinet. Things that you use often and want to keep in immediate reach. The storage cabinet is the grand daddy of garage storage. With storage cabinets you can choose from preconfigured sets consisting of 4, 6 or 10 cabinets. Add additional individual cabinets as needed.

Garage Storage Makes Things Nice

When your closet is finally free of unworn clothes and your furniture is free of messy tools, you and your spouse can finally stop bickering about not having enough space, or things being where they don’t belong. Use all that unused space in the garage for storage, it’s a good idea. Heck, it might even save your marriage!

Garagemaid Garage Storage

Posted by on Tuesday, December 15, 2009. Leave a Comment

Garage storage is something every home owner must come to terms with at some point. Our lives are just smack full of stuff. Stuff that has to go somewhere. Even though it’s stuff that we hardly ever use or really even need, we just seem to keep hanging on to it year after year. Of course, there are lots of things we do need to access and use on a regular, albeit infrequent, basis. For example, Christmas does come around every year, so those boxes and boxes of decorations have to be accessible and ready to rock ‘n roll when it’s time to deck the halls. And all that sports and fishing equipment can’t be buried somewhere when you need it. Lucky for home owners, effective do-it-yourself garage storage solutions are available from companies like Garagemaid. Consider the following:

Garagemaid has innovative garage storage systems that utilize interlocking connectors that are designed into each part. This means that there is no need to fuss with little fasteners that often just make assembly frustrating. The interlocking connectors add a lot of stability to the units, while at the same time making installation and assembly a snap. Once the unit is put together it’s just a matter of attaching it to the studs of the wall for a great garage storage system.

One of the nice things about Garagemaid products is that they are made out of a high density polyethylene so it is virtually impervious to problems that often arise from wood products when they get wet. With high density polyethylene, things like rot, rust, or cracking are avoided all together. It is an easily cleanable product that doesn’t have to be painted to look good.

Finally, the modular aspect of this system allows a variety of combinations that allow a more custom fit for your garage storage needs. You might start out with their basic storage cabinet that measures 84″ tall x 22″ wide. This has four adjustable shelves and a door on the upper part of the cabinet. The bottom part allows you to use up to four optional drawers. If you need additional garage storage you can just purchase additional shelves or even other cabinets with which it can be combined. This ability to customize really lets you get your storage just the way you want it in your garage space.

If you just need hooks for tools or other items you want to store on a wall, they also make a slat wall “workstation” kit with hooks. This unit is 42″ wide x 39″ tall. The kit includes 14 storage hooks that just snap securely into the slat wall where you want them. There is also a 4″ x 24″ storage basket that is designed to be used with the slat wall. These baskets are perfect for storing small items. The baskets have clear fronts so it’s easy to see what is inside. These don’t require any assembly. Just snap it in place and that’s it!

By combining the different styles of cabinets, slat wall kit, hooks, and baskets together anyone can design and implement their own customized garage storage solution in minutes. Then you will be able to find anything you need at any time.

Garage Storage Cabinet Keeps You Organized

Posted by on Monday, December 14, 2009. Leave a Comment

The organizational possibilities in having a garage storage cabinet is only as good as your commitment to keeping your garage organized. There is an old saying, “A place for everything, and everything in its place,” many people use to accomplish this.

A wall unit may be recommended for items that can be damaged if they get wet, such as paper towels, electric tools or even canned food items. Floor units are great for using as a garage storage cabinets if you do not have to worry about water getting in and damaging them, or they can be raised off the floor to keep them dry.

For simple storage of automotive-related items, such as cans of oil, cleaners and car wash supplies, a shelf may do, but they can look unorganized. Getting your hands on a used kitchen cabinet set can be ideal to use as a garage storage cabinet, giving you storage space in the cabinets as well as a work surface from the old countertop.

If you plan to use the countertop for a working surface such as woodworking, you may want to add a harder surface like plywood or a layer of heavier boards. Either one can easily be attached to the existing surface with glue, nails or screws to keep if from moving while you work.

Using Pegboard Keeps Inside Organized

Depending on the depth of garage storage cabinets, which are wall-mounted, one idea is lining the back with pegboard. This gives you a place to hang hand tools and other items inside garage storage cabinets making them easy to locate when you need them. It also allows the bottom shelf of the cabinet to be used for larger items.

Make sure you keep like items together in any garage storage cabinet for easier locating and to prevent cross-contamination. This is especially important if you plan to keep caned food items in a garage storage cabinet. You won’t want your canned peaches next your motor oil. Canned goods, however may be a problem if your garage is subject to extreme cold as they may freeze.

You can also custom build your own garage storage cabinet, usually made of waterproof plywood and painted, and having shelves or a workspace to suit your particular needs. Knowing something about carpentry can be a plus for this project, as making a garage storage cabinet durable will give you the space you need that will last.
