Garage Remodeling And Organization

Posted by on Wednesday, January 20, 2010. Leave a Comment

Garage remodeling is when you transform that almost neglected part of your house that your wife and children do not even dare to enter. Remodeling of garage is more efficient today because of recently developed garage organizing and storage systems. Remodeling of your garage is very important aspect of the home remodeling. It is probably the quickest way to add much needed space to your home.

If you are considering any sort of home repair this may just be the one that should be first on your list, because it is often the most visible exterior element of a home. Its no wonder that garage remodeling is getting a closer looks from homeowners. How to deal with a cluttered garage is an issue faced by every family at some point and garage remodeling and organization are among the most popular solutions. Therefore, the first important step in garage remodeling is to empty out the garage completely of its contents.

Door

The garage door is beginning to get more attention from todays homeowners as garage remodeling is becoming more important to them. To give you some idea of what you might be looking at, a new garage door usually costs somewhere around $1,000, and a garage storage system is another $1,000. For garage door tips, consider changing your old garage door. Newer garage doors are more secure and make better use of technology for safety and security.

An old door and opener could be a real threat for your children playing near the garage. The door needs to be maintained every now and then to ensure its continued safe use. When a door and opener gets really old, periodic maintenance gets even more expensive as some worn out parts would have to be replaced. The best way to go is to replace that old door and opener with a new one. Aside from looking better and saving on maintenance costs, these doors and openers contain better technology than the old one you have right now.

Nevertheless, a home survey found that the garage door is now the most used exterior door when entering the home for both men 44 percent and women 42 percent. The front door was close behind as the second most used exterior door. Wood composite garage doors can also be embellished with stylish details such as unique trim designs, beautiful woodgrain patterns, decorative hardware, multi planked grooves and a variety of window inserts to help bring more natural light into the garage.

Floor

However, for more extensive and lasting renovations that include insulation, flooring, soundproofing, electrical wiring and plumbing, you will probably need to hire a general contractor who can plan and oversee your garage renovation. Garages are notorious for being functional, yet unattractive, dull concrete floors, rough looking exposed beams and a general lack of organization are often the culprits. Some careful storage planning, a little drywall and may be a bit of epoxy floor covering can truly make a less than incredible garage into something worth showing off. As part of your garage remodeling process you may wish to give attention to the garage floor.

Generally speaking, these floors are made from concrete and often detract from the appearance of the garage due to various stains. However, there are a number of methods that can be utilized to give attention to the garage floor. One of these methods can be the application of paint to the garage floor. Another method of sprucing up a garage floor is through the use of a durable garage flooring product. It is strongly suggested that if utilizing this method of refinishing the garage floor that professional installers be contracted with.

Space

While garages main use is to store the car, you can also use the garage as a storage area. If you are thinking about expanding your garage area by diminishing the garden area, then this idea works for you. If a potential home buyer has always wanted their own work space, your garage remodel could be the thing that sells your home. The nature of your work space will determine what renovations are needed. Be sure to build a play space, whether it is a poker table, pool table, ping pong table or football table, a remodeled garage can be a mecca of home entertainment. Whether you need to de clutter the garage itself or want to use the space to transfer items out of the main part of your home, the garage is a common place for home storage.

Conclusion

While kitchen and bathroom remodeling continue to lead the way in home improvement projects, garage remodeling is beginning to come its own as more and more homeowners decide to use their garages for more than just storing their vehicles. Garage remodeling can be a home improvement strategy that provides many benefits to homeowners.

They can be remodeled into a new store place where you can make out some place for storing other homely accessories. Garages are very important part of the house and have equal importance such as the other sections of the house. Garage remodeling is probably the quickest way to add much needed space to your home. Garage remodels do not average the same rate of return, although they do certainly increase the value of your home.

Garage Organizers Take Away All Your Excuses

Posted by on Monday, January 18, 2010. Leave a Comment

Garage organizers are not all created equal, not by a long shot. When you have stuff to store, but not enough space to store it in, then you know a lot about storage – or the lack of it. Many garages are used to solve this problem with simple plywood shelves. This works, but isn’t very attractive. It also isn’t very efficient. There really isn’t all that much difference between a pile of stuff on the floor and a pile of stuff on a shelf. It can be nearly as frustrating and as equally irritating. Creating a truly organized garage space takes a little bit of planning and thought. Once you’ve figured out exactly what you need to organize, then you can purchase the appropriate organization solution for your garage. Assuming that you’ve figured out your needs, here are some possible organizers for your consideration.

First, you could opt for something as basic as garage organizer cabinets that can be mounted on the wall, or put on rollers and left on the floor. These are really nice because they allow you to store items on shelves, then hide them out of site behind doors. No more embarrassment when friends and family go out to your garage. But you can do more, way more.

Garage organizers go way beyond simple shelves or even cabinets. Another one of the more popular solutions for garage storage is adjustable wall rack systems. Companies like Gladiator, Bench Solution, Flow Wall, or NewAge VersaTrac all make various wall track systems that are truly customizable and versatile. Think about all that stuff that clutters up your garage that just doesn’t fit in a cabinet or on a shelf. Hoses, rakes, shovels, brooms, roller blades, rackets, weed trimmers, etc. With a wall system you can adjust the racks and hooks so that you can make a truly functional and customizable space. Yard tools no longer have to plague your life. Don’t you hate the way they start out stacked in a corner, but somehow find a way to creep out onto the floor and invariably get in the way? Say goodbye to that little problem forever!

As a large active family, we have lots of bikes and sports equipment to manage. Rather then just have all those things rolling, bouncing, and lying around, we’ve found that overhead garage organizers are a simple, but important part of our garage. For the bikes, we bought some Prostor ceiling mount bike lifts. These allow us to use the space above, while still allowing easy access to the bikes when we want to use them. For the basketballs, soccer balls, and baseball equipment, we purchased a couple of Prostor ball and bat sport racks. These are great. They are solid steel and have a really nice smooth finish. They were easy to mount up on the wall and does exactly what we wanted them to do – keep stuff off the floor!

Garage organizers are also available for other specific items. You can get racks for golf club bags, fishing poles, ski equipment, roller blades, lawn and garden equipment, even ladders and wheelbarrows. No matter what you have to organize, you will be pleasantly surprised at your options. You truly can make sense of all that stuff. There just isn’t any excuse for clutter anymore. Go for it!

Garage Organizers – The Gift That Keeps on Giving

Posted by on Sunday, January 17, 2010. Leave a Comment

Garage organizers make great gift ideas because they come in such a large variety of styles, colors, price ranges, and options. With the holiday season fast upon us, who isn’t looking for great gift ideas? Right, we all are. Consider these ideas and see if they help you find just the right thing for that special someone in your life.

Overhead Garage Organizers – These are sweet! Think about how much stuff you have that could easily be put up out of the way and forgotten about. Since it is stuff that is really only accessed one or two times every year anyway, you might as well. My favorite recommendation is the overhead platform. This is a spiffy contraption that allows you to load boxes and other items on a flat platform that is then hoisted up to the rafters. I put all my holiday decorations and keepsake boxes on there, lift it up out of the way, then basically forget about it for a year. Another popular option are bins that live on tracks that are mounted overhead. Same idea. Just load up the bins and put them up out of the way. Works great for items that only have to be accessed occasionally. Cabinet Garage Organizers – What can I say, these are the perennial classics of garage storage. These cabinets are available in so many configurations and styles that you are certain to find ones that would make great gifts. Most people really like metal cabinets because they are attractive and don’t require any maintenance other than maybe a squirt of lubricant on the hinges every couple years. Lots of space for storing tools, sandpaper, garden related items, or other items that you don’t want to look at on open shelving. Just load it up, close the doors and forget about it. Bins – These garage organizers are perfect for active families with lots of items to keep track of. All those sport balls, ski boots, roller blades, and other items that so often just get kicked to the side can now be stored in dedicated bins. These are great because they can easily be mounted on the wall at various heights to accommodate everyone in the family. Think how nice it would be to not have to trip all over soccer and basketballs every time you go into the garage. I can tell you from personal experience, this is a gift that anyone with kids would love! Fishing gear racks – Now here’s a novel idea. How about a place to store fishing gear in a way that will keep the hooks where they belong, the rods upright and unbroken, and reels clean and neat. Yep, fishing gear racks to the rescue. I can’t think of many things more irritating in the garage than a pile of fishing gear that keep falling all over itself, getting entangled and broken. These little racks mounton the wall and just plain solve the problem.

As you can see, garage organizers would make a great gift for almost anyone. Being able to keep things stored up out of the way where they can be easily accessed and kept clean and in nice condition is a good thing. The gift of garage organizers is a gift that just keeps on giving, and that’s an even better thing!

Clear Your Garage In Five Simple Steps

Posted by on Saturday, January 16, 2010. Leave a Comment

When it comes to a cluttered garage, things often get to a point where they seem too messy to fix without some Herculean effort. Your garage seemed so spacious – how did this happen? Easy: You got disorganized. To clean your garage you need to get organized, from the actual cleanup to how you act later on. By using the five-step process below, most people should be able to clean their garages in an afternoon and keep them clean. All you need is garbage bags, storage bins and a steel pegboard garage storage solution to get the most out of your garage’s interior space.

Step 1: Drive Away

Let’s make one thing clear: Never try to clean around your vehicle! Things will roll away underneath it, you’ll take longer to move things around and you’ll just end up with a half-finished job. It will also be difficult to execute Step 5 and install metal pegboards to make use of vertical space. So take your car out and find another place for it to park for the afternoon. If you’re worried about your reorganization efforts taking up space you need for the vehicle, just mark the space you need in masking tape. Simple!

Step 2: Take Out the Trash

Now that the car’s gone, take stock of all of the garbage in your garage. To do that you need to define “garbage” – and that can be trickier than you think. Garbage is anything you can’t or won’t ever use or sell. Many people are packrats who want to keep that rusty jar of screws or keys to your old, long-gone home, but be strong – they need to go. The same goes for that lawnmower you’re going to fix some day (if it’s been a year, that’s not going to happen – admit it!).  Once you’ve defined your trash, toss it out. You may need to run a load to the dump, but a lot of your garbage is going to be standard waste, good to go in a couple of bins. Make sure these are sturdy and able to stay outside, since if you bring them in you’re not really cleaning, are you?

Step 3: Move Things Back In

No, not “back in” your garage. This is your chance to repatriate all the stuff that’s wandered from closets, rec rooms and basements into the garage. Focus on moving these things back to their proper place. Families experience this kind of migration a lot; kids dump sports equipment, school books and other stuff at the threshold of the garage door. Well, it’s time to return these “gifts” to their senders. You may need to do some cleaning deeper inside your house, as indoor clutter tends to “invade” the space intended for these newly-returned objects.

Step 4: Organize Seasonally

At this stage the garage should only contain things that belong there. Now’s the time to ask yourself which objects belong there all the time and which should really only be there at certain times of the year. For example, if you only use your workbench in the summer, move it to a backyard shed. The same goes for garden tool storage. Likewise, move your skis, snowboards and other winter gear into a different area for the summer. Remember your choices so that when the seasons roll around you can switch out the right equipment in an hour or two instead of making these decisions all over again.

Step 5: Use Pegboards to Exploit Vertical Space

By Step 5 you should be left with only what you need in your garage for that particular season. Take a look at your garage. See any tables? Bare walls with nails? These are signs of under-used vertical space. Fix this by installing a steel pegboard system that’s strong enough to hang as much as possible, including bicycles, shovels, storage bins and heavy tools. For instance, Holey Rail’s steel pegboard system mounts on wall studs to let you hang very heavy objects – plastic bins and other items you’d normally have to leave on the floor. Once you’ve finished you should have a clutter-free garage with maximum available floor space. You only have the things you need, and have used pegboards to exploit wall space.

Garage Interior Design Tips

In designing a garage, first and foremost youn should be with an important decision on the purpose to what kind of area you want to design the garage interior. If you have a large garage space, then turn that extra space into something more than just a garage storage. If the area of inside of your garage is not that big just enough for your car and tools, well then you can organize things inside that garage and will be surprised to find that it provides enough room at your disposal, which can be used for some other activity. All of these are possible with a little bit grab of time for your garage interior design.

Interior Design Ideas:

First in mind is you have to consider your budget, you have to decide the budget that you can afford to spend on the garage interior design. Check the primary requirements that can help you modify the garage interior designs. Here, some garage designs have been discussed in detail: Storage Designs for Your Garage: Most of the spaces of a garage (whether the excess one or the only space provided) are occupied unnecessary and out of place things. If they are arranged into order, the garage can be engaged and used for useful necessary activities. Use of cabinets, shelves, hooks, pegs and pegboards are some of the essential items, most commonly needed to organize the garage. Fix up some J hooks on the walls of the garage to hang heavy garage tools like shovels, hoes, brooms and mops. Small hardware materials like nails and screws can be kept in jars or excess plastic box (if available). You can buy a pegboard to put other tools on it or even make it on your own resourcefulness. Shelves can be fixed on the walls to keep various things like storage bins, the plastic box, jars or any handmade storage for your tools. Chemical and other liquid materials can be kept inside the locked cabinets safely to be cautious enough.  Because you who knows, your children (if there’s any) might wander inside your garage. Door Designs for Your Garage: Art designs (any art designs that got into your mind) for garage doors are indispensable when designing garage interiors. There is a wide variety of designs for garage doors available in the market at an affordable price. If you want it personalized and have enough budget for it then you can have your own design. You can choose old style or contemporary style according to your taste and requirement. The materials of garage door can range from Mahogany to Cedar to steel. You have the option to select the controller systems of the door. It can be a chain drive, screw drive or computer controlled. Among these, the cheapest is the chain drive, but it is going to make a lot of noise. All types of door solutions have built-in devices for preventing closure when its path is blocked. Thus, they are safe to use. You can innovate the doors by adding some extra windows to obtain the look you have in your mind. Or you can even ask your kid if you allow them to for the colors and any additions. Flooring Designs for Your Garage: The options for garage floor covering is as diverse as polyvinyl to rubber to epoxy paints. The cheapest flooring option is the use of epoxy paints. It will enhance the look of your garage if you can make some designs. However, it makes the floor slippery and hence should be use if you do not require the garage regularly. Polyvinyl floor covering helps to hide all kinds of cracks and holes on the garage floor. It can also offer protection from stains, grease and other dirt that are common enemies of the garage floor. Rubber floor tiles is an ideal option if you are looking for a soft floor covering. Your choice for garage flooring should depend on the way you want to utilize the space of the garage.

There you have it! A whole new improvised Garage that would be pleasant to see on any way around. Once the modification work for garage interior design is over, you can get a nice and sleek interior garage design that is ready to be used in various different ways. The most common use for garage is as a workshop as you have all the tools inside it. However, it can also serve as a home office or a gym or playroom area for the kids or any other recreational activities.

It is really very important to organize things up, to have a new look and at this same time to be used in any way you want it (in its proper location and relevance of the activity in your garage). We can now start moving to finish what we are aiming in our garage!

If you have decided to design your own garage, either by constructing a completely new one or by remodeling and existing one on your property, you are probably in search of ideas. Even if you know what features you want to incorporate when you design your own garage, you may not have the technical expertise to work them into a building plan, but don’t want the expense of paying a contractor to prepare the plan for you. Do you have alternatives?

Yes, and a wide variety of them. You can begin by investigating the different software programs available which will give you all the help you need to design your own garage blueprints. One of the better-known software programs is Plan3D.

Software Programs

You can subscribe to Plan3D online and, for a small monthly fee, use their service to design your own garage with all the features you want, and then view both its interior and exterior from every conceivable angle. If you’d like to design your own garage from plans you found elsewhere, you can even scan them to thePlan3D program and get a clear picture of how the finished garage will look in three dimensions.

If you don’t have any idea of where to find plans from which you can design your own garage, you can again do an online search. Many online companies have libraries of garage plans available for immediate downloading; these plans will include not only blueprints, but complete instructions on the materials you’ll need to get your garage constructed.

Finding Garage Plans Online

Homeplans.com is one such site, which in addition to having hundreds of plans for houses, has plans for both garages with workshops and garages with living space from which you can get ideas to design your own garage. For more info see http://www.garageplanshelp.com/Garage_Storage/ on Garage Storage.

Prefab Garage Kits

If you think you’d not only like to design your own garage, but construct it as well, look into the many prefabricated garage kits now available. Built from galvanized steel, they come prepared to assemble and can usually be constructed in les than a day with three or four people working on them.

If you do not have the necessary manpower to assemble a prefab garage, many manufacturers can provide construction crews for an additional expense. You will have to check with your zoning board to find out if steel structures are permitted in you area, and what dimensions are acceptable for garages. You’ll also have to pour a foundation for the unit, to provide it with extra stability.

You can have a hand in the design of your own garage by telling the prefab company what features you’d like to incorporate in the unit. You can further customize it by choosing among the many available styles and colors.

For whatever reason, most of us seem to expect and even accept the oil spots, cracks, and stains that accumulate on garage flooring over time. The end result is a garage that looks like it belongs anywhere but attached to your otherwise beautiful home. At Garage Outfitters, we offer a number of garage storage solutions including garage cabinets, overhead storage, garage accessories including storage containers, HandiWall, and more. And in the interest of making your garage as pristine as it can be, we’re happy to protect yours with the only garage floor coating on the market manufactured by BASF.

The difference in the coating we offer is profound. In partnership with BASF we are proud to offer polyaspartic coating, which sets a new standard in terms of strength and durability thanks to the most advanced chemical coating technologies available in today’s market. Traditional coatings are generally epoxies, which look great going on but tend to give into the elements as time passes. In other words fading, peeling, and cracking are usually inevitable. Polyaspartic coating, however, is a different story and offers a much happier ending. Our coatings work better because they literally seep into and bond with the concrete they are applied to. This bonding gives your garage floor a built-in defense mechanism against staining, chipping, hot tire wear, fading, etc. The end result is a seamless garage floor set to stay that way for years to come.

Our garage floor coatings are available in a variety of colors and finishes, and the years of style and protection they offer for your garage floor can be achieved quickly through our one-day installation. It’s simply a matter of letting our factory trained installers treat your concrete for existing stains and cracks, and then mechanically grinding and leveling the concrete surface before applying the color and texture selection you’ve chosen. And because they’re backed by one of the industry’s best warranties, you’ll have the added benefit of knowing a coating built for the long haul anyway is assured of standing the test of time.

Add value to your home and make your garage a place you actually enjoy entering and spending time in by giving your flooring a good coat of what we have to offer. A good garage makeover begins with the foundation, and our polyaspartic coating ensures a foundation built to withstand the elements and provide years of durable service. You are simply a day away from the garage floor of your dreams. Let us show you what a difference our coating can make.
